Happy Wednesday Y'all!

This week's Gen-Z Phrase of the Week:

Wake Up Babe

Definition:

A catchphrase used to humorously announce new content or events, often in an exaggerated or ironic manner

Context:

The phrase "Wake up babe" originated from meme culture, particularly on social media platforms like Reddit & Twitter, around 2019-2020.  It typically follows the format "Wake up babe, new X dropped," where X represents a new piece of content, such as a song, tweet, or event.  The phrase gained popularity as a meme template featuring a stock photo of a man waking up his sleeping partner, symbolizing the urgency or excitement associated with the new content.

The phrase has evolved to be used more broadly among friends & online communities.  It's also often employed ironically to highlight mundane or trivial updates, exaggerating their importance for comedic effect.  The meme has been widely adapted to various contexts, from announcing new music releases by popular artists to commenting on current events or pop culture phenomena.

Example:

Fun Fact:

According to NASA, "during its life cycle a hurricane can expend as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs."  In fact, the average hurricane generates around 1.5 trillion watts of energy, which is sufficient to supply half of the world's power needs for an entire year (hence why they are sometimes called "heat engines").
