Happy Wednesday Y'all!
This week's Gen-Z Phrase of the Week is...
|
Definition:
Refers to the overall atmosphere or feeling
of a particular person, place, or situation
|
Context:
The term "vibe" originated from "vibration"
in 1960s counterculture and gained
mainstream popularity through hip-hop
culture in the 1990s, before evolving into
Gen Z slang through internet culture &
memes around 2019. Today, it functions
as both a noun and verb with remarkable
versatility.
Common variations include:
-
"Vibing" / "Vibin'" - relaxing, enjoying
the moment without worry
-
"Vibe check" - suddenly (often humorously)
assessing someone's mood or energy
-
"It's a vibe" - expressing approval of a
particularly good atmosphere or situation
-
"We vibe" - having good chemistry or
connection with another person
-
"Good / bad vibes" - positive or negative
emotional atmospheres
-
"Immaculate vibes" - perfectly positive
atmosphere (often used with mild irony)

Kraig:
βHow was the coffee shop you visited?β
Arin:
βIt's a vibe. Was giving
'pretentious but I could still stay here for
hours' energy.β
|
Fun Fact:
Scientists discovered that when you eat
garlic, bad breath lasts for hours because
one compound (allyl methyl sulfide) gets
absorbed into your bloodstream and released
through your lungs. This makes it
almost impossible to get rid of by brushing
your teeth or using breath mints, ensuring
your post-garlic social interactions won't
pass the vibe check.
