Happy Wednesday Y'all!

This week's Gen-Z Phrase of the Week is...

Say Less

Definition:

A concise way of expressing agreement or acknowledging that you understand what someone is saying without adding any further comment

Context:

The phrase "say less" originated in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and gained widespread popularity in the early 2010s, particularly among Gen Z.  It evolved as a more emphatic variant of the older expression "say no more" (a similar sentiment to "enough said" or "point taken").

It functions as a quick affirmation in response to invitations, requests, or explanations. For example, if someone asks "Want to grab pizza tonight?" responding with "Say less!" communicates enthusiastic agreement without needing additional conversation.

Example:

(all names & events in the following scenario have been made up)

Awstin: β€œAnyone want to get tacos for lunch at the new food truck downtown? I’ve heard they got great reviews.”

Alaxander: β€œOhh, say less! You had me at tacos.”

Fun Fact:

Research shows that most individuals spend 60% of their conversation time talking about themselves.  This number jumps to 80% while conversing on social media.

Say less, listen more :)
