Gonna Tell My Kids

Definition:

An image caption refencing a historical figure or celebrity in the form of “gonna tell my kids this was ____”… but where the image is far from the mentioned person / group, and only shares a couple traits or characteristics in common

Context:

The earliest known appearance of the phrase was on July 2nd, 2019 from a tweet posting a picture of rapper Juelz Santana, but saying “Ima tell my kids in 2045 that this was Obama.”

It then became a viral meme caption soon after, framed around the idea of silly white lies to rewrite history and mess with your kids (although usually with no intention of actually doing such a thing).

The memes range from pop culture to political; some flat out untrue, while others are simply just reframing references from millennial youth in hilarious ways (some so nonsensical that they exist purely for the most niche of niche audiences).

Fun Fact:

Gen Alpha is generally considered to be anyone born between the years 2010 and 2024 (this is the last year!). And by the time they're all born in 2025, there will be an estimated 2 billion of them, making them the largest generation in history… a large portion of whom will have few memories before COVID🤯.
