Happy Wednesday Y'all!
This week's Gen-Z Phrase of the Week:
|
Definition:
Abbreviation for "outfit," often used to compliment
someone's fashion sense or style
|
Context:
The phrase "fit" gained significant popularity as
shorthand for "outfit" on social media in late 2019 / early 2020, with people using it
to express approval of someone's clothing, such as saying "nice fit."
Other phrases:
- "fit check" - a way for individuals to
request feedback on their outfit from their social media followers.
- "rate my ___ fit" - refers to a 2023 trend
on TikTok & YouTube involving users asking viewers to rate their outfits (e.g.
work outfit, school outfit, etc.) which they are wearing, and then subsequently
displaying the outfit on the ground (...implying that they just took it off).
- "calm luh fit" or "luh calm fit" -
a slang way of saying "calm little fit" or "little calm fit," used to describe a
simple / comfortable outfit that is "nun too crazy" (although it can also be used
sarcastically to refer to an over-the-top outfit).

Fun
Fact:
Over 70% of the global population wears secondhand
clothing - of which the United States is the largest exporter of, and Kenya is the
largest importer of. So next time you need to shop for clothes, consider going
to a thrift store (it's more sustainable and saves money!). Or at least the next
time you donate your clothes, know that it is likely helping someone else out :)
