Context:
Slang involving "dead," "deceased," or "ded"
evolved from the long-standing English idiom
"dying from laughter" or "dying of
[emotion]," which has been used for
generations to express intense
feelings. In the early 2000s, with the
rise of internet culture & memes, this
concept was abbreviated and intensified to
simply stating one was already "dead" rather
than in the process of dying.
More recently, the variation "I am deceased"
emerged among Gen-Z as a deliberately
dramatic version of the same sentiment,
while "ded" became popular as an
intentionally misspelled, casual variant
that added an extra layer of humor over text
& social media.
