Happy Wednesday Y'all!
This week's Gen-Z Phrase of the Week is...
|
Definition:
A casual compliment suggesting someone is
the best or outstanding, often used to hype
someone up as "the guy" or a dominant figure
|
Context:
The phrase evolved from African-American
slang & sports culture, becoming
mainstream when rapper Kevin Gates released
his album "I'm Him" in 2019. It
exploded as an internet meme in 2022,
spreading through viral videos & sports
highlights where outstanding players were
praised as being "him."
Common variations include:
-
the mocking "bro thinks he's him" (calling
out someone's overconfidence)
-
the boastful self-declaration "I'm him"
(claiming top-dog status)
-
the humorous deflection "I'm not him" (for
self-aware / self-deprecating jokes)

Elyjah:
βI'm telling you, when it comes to steaks
- bro is him!β

Fun Fact:
In 2017, rock climber Alex Honnold scaled
the towering 3,000-foot El Capitan wall in
Yosemite without any ropes or safety
equipment in just under 4 hours - a feat
many considered impossible. His
death-defying achievement was captured in
the Oscar-winning documentary "Free Solo,"
showcasing one of the most dangerous
athletic accomplishments in history.
Bro is him.
