Context:
The phrase originated from a late 2024 rap
song where it referenced 67th Street in
Philadelphia, before exploding virally in
early 2025 when TikTok & Instagram users
paired it with basketball highlight reels of
6'7" NBA player LaMelo Ball. The meme
reached peak virality after basketball
player Taylen Kinney began humorously
forcing the numbers into interviews while
performing an accompanying hand gesture
(palms-up, see-saw motion), and especially
after the "67 Kid" video went viral showing
a young fan enthusiastically shouting the
phrase at a youth basketball game.
Gen Z & Gen Alpha kids now blurt out
"6-7" whenever those (or sometimes any)
numbers are mentioned in conversation, often
with the signature two-handed palm up
gesture. It is embraced purely because
it's "beautiful because it's dumb" β its
complete lack of meaning being precisely
what makes it funny to the youth as a shared
generational joke (that often baffles
adults).
